Our Investment Team

Jared Johnson - Portfolio Manager

Mr. Johnson joined Dakota Asset Management in February 2021 as a Portfolio Manager. He has proven valuable from Day One, whereby we can utilize his expertise and expand our research efforts. He started his career as a Research Associate at SG Capital Management in 2007. He joined the firm full-time as a Research Analyst in 2010 and focused on bottoms-up fundamental research to generate alpha in both their long-only and long/short strategies. Due to his success, he was promoted in 2018 as Director of Research whereby he coordinated the research effort and managed a team of analysts. During his tenure the firm grew their assets from $35mm to a peak of $700mm.

Jared is a graduate of DePaul University in 2010, where he earned a B.S. in accounting and finance, magna cum laude. He holds a CPA designation and is currently studying for the CFA designation. In his spare time, he enjoys golf, running, traveling and watching his beloved Chicago sports teams.

Erik Moquist - President

Mr. Moquist started his career as an investment banker in the late 1990s. The experience as an investment banker helped forge a vast knowledge of the capital requirements for public companies in the search for growth capital. In 2003, he launched and built the Institutional Research, Sales and Trading division for Noble Capital Markets. He was instrumental in assisting mutual funds, hedge funds and investment managers invest in small and micro cap companies. In December 2011, he joined Maxim Group to open and manage their Florida office where he continued his focus on generating new investment ideas for institutional clients. In the Fall of 2016, he decided to use his investment knowledge to launch Dakota Asset Management and continue to deliver the same expertise he has provided to institutional investors for over 20 years.

Erik is a graduate of the University of North Dakota with a bachelors degree in financial management. He resides in Miami with his wife and two children. In his spare-time he likes to hit the little white ball around on the golf course, watch the Florida Panthers hockey team and hop on a plane from time-to-time to experience different cultural experiences.
